Islamabad: The Senate of Pakistan on Friday unanimously adopted a strongly worded resolution rejecting India’s allegations that Pakistan was involved in the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Moved by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, the resolution categorically denounced the accusations as “baseless and frivolous,” and condemned any attempts to malign Pakistan’s image through misinformation. It reiterated Pakistan’s unambiguous opposition to terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, affirming that the killing of innocent civilians contradicts the core values of the Pakistani nation.

The resolution accused the Indian government of orchestrating a “mala fide campaign” to exploit the issue of terrorism for political gain, especially in light of upcoming elections. It also denounced India’s recent unilateral move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, terming it a blatant violation of international law and declaring it “an act tantamount to war.”

Warning against further provocation, the Senate asserted that Pakistan is fully capable and prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. It cited the “robust and valiant” response to Indian aggression in February 2019 as evidence of Pakistan’s resolve, stressing that any future misadventure would be met with a swift, firm, and decisive response.

While reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and stability, the resolution made it clear that there would be no compromise on matters of national sovereignty, security, and vital interests.

It also called for India to be held accountable for its alleged involvement in acts of terrorism and targeted assassinations, both within Pakistan and on foreign soil, urging the international community to take notice.

The Senate reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the legitimate right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people and vowed to continue its moral, political, and diplomatic backing for their just struggle.
