Colombo: Pakistan produced a steady batting display after electing to bat first against Namibia in their final Group A encounter at the SSC Cricket Ground in Colombo on Wednesday.

After winning the toss, Pakistan’s openers Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub provided a composed start, ensuring early stability in a high-pressure contest. Ayub, however, was dismissed for 14 after being caught behind, handing Namibia an early breakthrough.

Captain Salman Ali Agha walked in at number three and added momentum to the innings with a fluent 38 before departing at a crucial stage. Khawaja Nafay failed to capitalise on the start and was sent back to the pavilion for just five runs.

At 131 for 3 in 15 overs, with Farhan holding firm alongside Shadab Khan, Pakistan maintained a healthy scoring rate in what is effectively a must-win fixture to keep their Super Eights hopes alive.

The encounter carries added significance following Pakistan’s setback against India earlier in the tournament. The Green Shirts had begun their T20 World Cup campaign in dominant fashion with victories over the Netherlands and the USA but were unable to maintain momentum against their arch-rivals.

With four points from three matches, Pakistan are currently placed third in Group A. A win — or even a washout due to rain — will secure their progression to the Super Eights stage. A defeat, however, would end their campaign.

Namibia, meanwhile, sit at the bottom of the group standings after three consecutive defeats against the Netherlands, USA and India. They will look to end their tournament on a positive note with an upset victory.

In their only previous T20 International meeting, Pakistan emerged victorious against Namibia.
