Pakistan Develops Anti-Drone Gun ‘Sufra’ for Border Security

News Desk

Karachi: Pakistan on Wednesday showcased a domestically developed countermeasure against cross-border suicide (kamikaze) drones — the Sufra drone-jamming gun — which officials say can disable hostile drones and their controllers at ranges up to 1.5 kilometres.

The device, produced at the National Electronics Complex, was displayed on the opening day of the Karachi Maritime Expo where demonstrators said it successfully neutralised kamikaze drones.

“The gun can be installed along national borders and deployed at major public events in cities,” said Hamza Khalid, manager of the manufacturing company, during the expo. He described the system’s operational envelope as a 30-degree angle — adjustable to suit tactical needs — and a 1.5km effective range.

Within that operational sector, the Sufra gun can either seize control of an incoming drone and force it to land, or render both the drone and its remote controller inoperable, Khalid said.

When asked about saturation attacks, he added the system had been designed to cope with multiple simultaneous threats. “No matter how many hostile drones arrive, the gun has the capability to neutralise them,” he told reporters.

Officials suggested the Sufra system could be deployed along border areas to counter cross-border threats or used at large urban gatherings where the risk from small unmanned aerial systems is elevated.

The display at the Maritime Expo marks a step in Pakistan’s efforts to develop homegrown electronic warfare and counter-drone capabilities in response to rising unconventional aerial threats.
