Pakistan Condemns Israeli Attack on Gaza Aid Flotilla

News Desk

Islamabad:  Pakistan has strongly condemned Israel’s attack on the Global Sumud Gaza Flotilla, which was carrying more than 450 humanitarian workers from 44 countries to deliver aid to besieged Palestinians.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif termed the assault “cowardly” and demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all detained activists.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister said the flotilla’s only “crime” was delivering life-saving assistance to helpless Palestinians. He voiced deep concern over the detention of international volunteers and stressed that Pakistan “condemns this act of aggression in the strongest possible terms.”

“The barbarity must end. Peace must be given a chance and humanitarian aid must reach those in need,” he urged, calling on the international community to take urgent action.

Flotilla Intercepted at Sea

The Global Sumud Flotilla, which set sail with about 40 vessels, was intercepted by Israeli naval forces in the Mediterranean. However, organizers reported that nearly 30 boats managed to evade the blockade and continued sailing towards Gaza.

The interception occurred when the vessels were just 85 kilometers (46 nautical miles) from the Gaza coast, raising hopes that part of the aid—comprising food, medicine, and other essentials—might still reach Palestinian civilians.

Global Outcry

The incident has triggered widespread international criticism. Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced the expulsion of Israel’s diplomatic delegation from Bogotá, denouncing what he called “a new international crime by Benjamin Netanyahu.”

Petro also declared the immediate suspension of a free trade agreement with Israel and vowed legal action against the Israeli government. He appealed to international jurists for support, describing Netanyahu as “a worldwide criminal who must be captured.”
