Pakistan, China, Russia Urge Mideast Ceasefire at UN
News Desk
Islamabad: Pakistan, Russia, and China have jointly submitted a draft resolution to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the Middle East. The move comes amid escalating tensions following recent U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
During an emergency session of the UNSC, representatives from the three countries sharply criticized U.S. military actions, warning of dire consequences if the crisis is not urgently addressed.
Russia: U.S. Has Opened a ‘Pandora’s Box’
Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, condemned the strikes as reckless and warned of global repercussions.
“The United States has shown complete contempt for the international community and opened a Pandora’s box,” Nebenzya said. “No one knows what catastrophe these actions might unleash. It is not only ignoring the mass killing of Palestinians but now threatens the safety of humanity as a whole.”

He called the joint U.S.-Israeli operation a “humiliation of the international community” and highlighted the “glaring double standards” in global nuclear oversight—pointing out that Israel is not a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), while Iran is among the most scrutinized nations by the IAEA.
China: Stop Hostilities to Prevent Regional Spillover
Echoing Russia’s concerns, China’s ambassador to the UN, Fu Cong, strongly condemned the U.S. attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
“We are deeply concerned about the risk of the situation spiraling out of control,” Fu said. “Israel must cease hostilities immediately to avoid regional spillover.”
He described the strikes as a “dangerous violation” of the UN Charter, international law, and Iran’s sovereignty. Fu added that the attacks undermined the global nuclear non-proliferation regime and dealt a “major blow” to international efforts to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons.
Pakistan: Call for Diplomacy and Solidarity with Iran
Pakistan’s permanent representative, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar, urged the Council to act swiftly to prevent a wider conflict.
“We demand an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and call on all parties to return to diplomacy,” he stated.
Describing the strikes as a clear breach of international law, Iftikhar reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Iran’s right to self-defense.
“We stand in deep solidarity with the people and government of Iran. Military actions must give way to diplomatic engagement,” he said.
He also revealed that Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister is actively involved in regional peace efforts and called on the international community to support the resolution jointly tabled by Pakistan, China, and Russia.
Iran: Reserves Right to Respond
Iran’s permanent representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, condemned the strikes as “premeditated and unprovoked aggression” ordered directly by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
“This is yet another shameful chapter in U.S. political history,” Iravani said, referencing the coordinated attacks on nuclear facilities in Isfahan, Natanz, and Fordow. He accused Trump of orchestrating the strikes for political gain.
Calling Iran an “independent and peace-seeking nation,” Iravani asserted Tehran’s right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
“These acts of aggression, following Israeli strikes that have already claimed over 400 lives, form part of a broader campaign of hostility that cannot go unanswered,” he concluded.
