Pak-EPA Urges for Action Against Environmental Pollution

Islamabad: Farzana Altaf Shah, the Director General (DG) of the Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA), called upon citizens to assume a proactive role and take responsibility in tackling environmental pollution in the country on Sunday.
She emphasized the urgent need to address pollution affecting rivers, oceans, and natural ecosystems, highlighting the detrimental impact on both human and wildlife health. Shah underscored the importance of collective efforts to mitigate the disastrous consequences of environmental pollution.
Talking to the PTV news channel, she said that if we are not controlled by pollution, then climate change will not just be a subject; it could become a major cause of impact on all kinds of flora, fauna, and human beings in our country.
She highlighted various efforts by her organisation to confront the environmental challenges. She informed citizens about the prevention of tree cutting and that there should be a ban on converting agricultural lands into settlements.
Meanwhile, the Environment Protection Department has imposed a fine of Rs 300,000 on two factory owners on the charge of polluting the environment in different parts of Faisalabad.
Deputy Director of Environment Johar Abbas said here on Sunday that a team checked various factories and mills and found a textile unit near Roshanwala Bypass involved in polluting the environment by emitting excessive smoke from its chimneys. Therefore, the environment team imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on its owners.
Meanwhile, the environment protection team also imposed a fine of Rs. 200,000 on a paperboard factory situated at Sargodha Road near Chak No.4-JB Ramdewali, as it was also involved in polluting the environment by burning prohibited materials in its ovens, he added.
