Islamabad: Pakistan has launched a large-scale humanitarian relief operation to assist Sri Lanka as the country reels from severe flooding caused by Cyclone Ditwah and relentless monsoon rains.
Acting on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has finalised preparations for the first consignment of emergency aid.
A 45-member Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team, deployed with support from the Pakistan Army, will accompany the shipment.
A C-130 aircraft will depart from Nur Khan Air Base carrying 100 tons of relief supplies, with NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider overseeing the mission.
The cargo includes rescue boats, water pumps, life jackets, tents, blankets, food items, milk, and essential medicines. NDMA also plans to dispatch a fully equipped field hospital to bolster medical assistance for affected communities.

Officials said Pakistan will continue to provide humanitarian support to Sri Lanka as recovery needs evolve.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) SAIF, currently docked in Colombo for the International Fleet Review-25, has also begun humanitarian and disaster-relief operations in flood-affected regions.
The vessel handed over food staples, ready-to-eat meals, dry rations, first-aid kits, emergency medicines, and other essential equipment to Sri Lankan authorities.
The Navy stated it remains ready to extend additional assistance if required, adding that Pakistan’s swift response reflects its commitment to regional stability and solidarity with friendly nations during times of crisis.
