Pak-Afghan Border Closure Enters Second Consecutive Day

News Desk

Chaman: The Chaman border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan remained completely closed for the second consecutive day on Monday as tensions escalated following deadly cross-border clashes over the weekend.

The closure has halted all transportation and trade activities, according to security sources, disrupting the daily movement of goods and people that serve as a vital economic lifeline for border communities on both sides.

Security officials confirmed that the Pak-Afghan border at Chaman remains sealed, with heightened security measures enforced across the area to prevent any further escalation.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), militants from the Afghan Taliban and the Indian-backed group Fitna-ul-Khawarij launched a coordinated attack late on the night of October 11 and 12 near the border region.

The Pakistan Army reportedly responded swiftly, repelling the assault and temporarily capturing 21 Afghan positions, while also targeting and destroying multiple terrorist command and planning centers.

The ISPR confirmed that 23 Pakistani soldiers embraced martyrdom, while 29 others sustained injuries during the intense exchange of fire. In retaliatory strikes, Pakistani forces eliminated more than 200 militants involved in the assault.

Pakistan’s Firm Stance on Border Security

In a strongly worded statement, the ISPR urged the Taliban government in Kabul to take immediate action against terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory and to end cross-border support for militancy.

“Pakistan will continue to take all possible actions to protect its people,” the military spokesperson said, warning that continued provocations would invite a firm and decisive response.

The statement reiterated Islamabad’s long-standing position that Afghanistan’s soil must not be used for attacks against Pakistan, calling on Kabul to act decisively against terror sanctuaries along the border.

Authorities said the border will remain closed until security conditions improve and necessary confidence-building measures are undertaken by the Afghan side.
