Over 40% of People Suffer from Acidity Despite Medication: Experts
News Desk
Islamabad: Health experts have warned that over 40 percent of people continue to suffer from acidity-related problems even after taking medication, citing poor dietary habits and unhealthy lifestyles as major contributing factors.
Speaking at a press conference at the National Press Club, renowned gastroenterologists Dr. Sultan Zeb, Dr. Sarwar Malik, and Dr. Tayyab Saeed highlighted the growing burden of digestive disorders in the country. They stressed the need for a balanced and nutritious diet to support digestive health and prevent associated complications.
The doctors identified the consumption of high-fat and processed foods, inadequate water intake, and irregular eating habits as primary causes of acidity and related issues. Mental stress, smoking, and alcohol consumption were also flagged as significant aggravators of digestive problems.
“Digestive health is closely linked to lifestyle choices. Late-night meals, overeating, and prolonged inactivity are all contributing to the rise in gastrointestinal complaints,” said Dr. Zeb.
The experts urged the public to adopt healthier habits such as moderate eating, regular physical activity, and timely meals to improve gut health. They also called for special attention to children’s diets, warning that poor nutrition in early years can lead to long-term health complications.
According to the experts, one in every three people worldwide suffers from digestive disorders like heartburn, acidity, indigestion, and constipation—conditions often rooted in poor lifestyle practices.
Concluding the session, the doctors called for nationwide awareness campaigns to educate citizens on the importance of maintaining digestive health through better nutrition and active living.
