Islamabad: The Islamic World Academy of Sciences (IAS), in collaboration with the Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS), will host its 25th IAS Conference in Islamabad from July 22-24. The conference will address the “Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus for the Security of OIC Countries.”
The conference will be inaugurated jointly by Senator Sherry Rehman and Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, at PAS.
The IAS is supported by Jordan and Pakistan, with patronage from Prince El-Hassan bin Talal of Jordan and Asif Ali Zardari, President of Pakistan. The Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST) of Jordan is also coordinating the event.
The WEFE nexus framework highlights the interconnectedness between water, energy, food, and ecosystems. Effective management of these sectors is crucial for achieving sustainable development goals. Many developing countries, particularly OIC member states, face unique challenges related to population growth, climate change, and resource scarcity.
The conference will feature over 140 scientists, academicians, scholars, industrialists, and policymakers from Pakistan and 13 OIC countries, including Bangladesh, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Palestine, South Africa, Sudan, and Uzbekistan. It will include eight technical sessions with keynote lectures, panel discussions, and presentations.
This event will provide a platform for global experts to share knowledge and develop holistic solutions to secure a sustainable future.
