No M-Tag, No Entry in Islamabad: Excise Warns
News Desk
Islamabad: With enforcement tightening across major roads and entry points, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has completed 219,979 vehicle e-taggings, expanding M-Tag registration centres from 19 to 24 to accelerate compliance in the federal capital.
According to an ICT spokesman, the increase in facilitation points has been aimed at managing the growing number of applicants and reducing waiting times. Of the 24 centres now operational, two are functioning round-the-clock, while two additional facilities are also providing 24/7 services to facilitate citizens seeking immediate registration.
Officials said M-Tag registration has been made mandatory for all vehicles operating in Islamabad, and field operations are underway against vehicles without the electronic tag. Enforcement teams are conducting inspections on major roads and city entry points to ensure implementation.

Modern M-Tag readers have been installed at key highways and checkpoints, enabling instant identification of registered and unregistered vehicles. Authorities say the digital system will not only strengthen enforcement but also improve traffic monitoring and regulation across the capital.
Director General Excise Irfan Memon stated that vehicles without M-Tags would not be allowed to operate in the city. He said the policy is being implemented in phases to minimise inconvenience, but enforcement would continue until full compliance is achieved.
The Excise Department has advised citizens to visit their nearest facilitation centres to complete registration, noting that the process has been simplified and can be completed quickly upon submission of required documents.
Officials believe the data generated through the M-Tag system will support better vehicle management, traffic flow monitoring and regulatory oversight in Islamabad. Citizens have been urged to complete registration promptly, as further measures may be introduced in areas where compliance remains low.
