No Leniency for Culprits, PWPA Chair Tells Gang Rape Survivorss

Lahore: Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA) Chairperson Hina Parvez Butt visited the family of two real sisters who were subjected to a tragic incident of gang rape in Lahore and met the affected sisters.
Expressing deep sympathy with the survivors and their family, the PWPA chairperson assured them of complete legal, medical, psychological and security support.
She said that gang rape is an extremely heinous, brutal and unforgivable crime, and those involved do not deserve any leniency.
Hina Parvez informed that the main accused had been arrested, while investigations were underway in a transparent, impartial and comprehensive manner in line with the law.
She made it clear that violence against women and girls is a red line for the Punjab government and that those responsible for such barbaric acts will be brought to justice at all costs.
The chairperson said that the authority is providing immediate medical assistance, professional psychological counselling and legal aid to the affected sisters, while security arrangements have also been ensured to protect the family from pressure and harassment.
She also urged the public to immediately report any crime against women to ensure prompt action.
Child abuse suspect arrested
An accused involved in obscene acts with a child was arrested with the assistance of Safe City cameras and prompt response by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA).
According to a PSCA spokesperson on Monday, the incident was reported by the child’s father through a call to the Emergency Helpline 15, upon which the Safe City Control Room immediately initiated action. A Safe City officer contacted the complainant through a video call, collected preliminary information and assured full safety and protection.
Based on the information received, the virtual patrolling officer traced the suspect using the Safe City camera network. With the help of advanced surveillance technology, the suspect, his motorcycle and all possible movement routes were identified.
On timely and accurate information provided by the authority, Police Station Civil Lines conducted swift action and arrested the accused. Initial investigations revealed that the suspect had previously been involved in similar activities, the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson advised citizens to immediately call 15 in case of harassment or any untoward situation to ensure prompt assistance. Citizens can also contact Safe City through the “Connect to Safe City” feature of the Public Safety App.
