No Code, No Problem: Google Expands Opal to Pakistan

News Desk

Islamabad: Tech giant Google has officially launched its AI-powered app-building tool Opal in Pakistan, enabling users to create mini web apps simply by typing text prompts. The expansion is part of Google’s broader rollout to 15 new countries, including India, Japan, Brazil, and Singapore.

Originally introduced in the United States earlier this year, Opal quickly gained popularity for allowing users — even those with no coding experience — to design functional and creative web apps in minutes.

“When we opened up Opal to users in the US, we anticipated they might build simple, fun tools,” said Megan Li, Senior Product Manager at Google Labs. “We didn’t expect the surge of sophisticated, practical, and highly creative Opal apps we got instead.”

According to Li, the overwhelming global response prompted Google to extend Opal’s reach to more countries.

How Opal Works

Opal allows users to describe the kind of app they want in plain language. Google’s AI then automatically generates the app, complete with a visual editor that displays its workflow — including inputs, outputs, and processing steps.

Users can edit or expand their apps through the built-in toolbar, and once finalized, they can publish and share their creations online via Google accounts.

As part of the global expansion, Google has rolled out major performance and debugging upgrades for Opal. The improved no-code debugger lets users run workflows step by step, identifying and fixing errors directly within the visual interface.

The latest update has also increased processing speed, reducing app creation time from several seconds to near-instant generation. A new parallel processing feature now supports multiple actions running simultaneously, improving efficiency for complex app designs.

A Growing No-Code Ecosystem

With Opal, Google joins the rapidly growing market of no-code and low-code platforms such as Canva, Figma, and Replit. These tools aim to empower nontechnical creators, educators, and small businesses to design, prototype, and deploy digital tools without writing code — a trend gaining momentum worldwide.

The launch of Opal in Pakistan opens new possibilities for local developers, startups, and students, offering a powerful platform to turn ideas into interactive web experiences through the power of AI.
