NHMP Implements Fog Closures on Highways

Islamabad: The National Highways and Motorways Police (NHMP) has implemented closures on national highways encompassing routes from Sher Shah to Shamkot, Abdul Hakeem to Pindi Bhattiyan, and various other critical stretches due to dense fog.
As of December 28th, the pervasive mist significantly reduces visibility, necessitating strategic road closures.
Motorists in affected regions experience considerable disruptions due to fog-induced closures gripping the road network. Major impacted areas span from Sher Shah (KM 00) to Shamkot (KM 54), Abdul Hakeem (KM 89) to Pindi Bhattiyan (KM 290), and Thokar Niaz Baig (KM 00) to Kotmomin (KM 162). These closures, a precautionary measure amid persistent fog, aim to ensure commuter safety.
Significantly, closures at the Islamabad main toll plaza affect both north and southbound lanes. The critical section from Kot Momin (KM 163) to Lillah (KM 214) is closed for heavy-duty vehicles (HTVs), compounding challenges for freight transport.

Challenges intensify along the stretch from Faizpur (KM 1147) to Rajana Interchange (KM 965), with closures in both north and southbound lanes. Northbound traffic diversion from Rajhana (KM 965) redirects vehicles to alternative routes.
Visibility concerns persist across various segments, with fog drastically reducing sight range. From Kassowal Bridge (KM 1045) to Musafir Khana (KM 817), drivers contend with visibility as low as 50–100 meters. Similarly, the stretch from Kharian Cantt (KM 1410) to Chak Akka (KM 1446) reports visibility dropping to 50–60 meters.
In extremely challenging conditions, the stretch from Jinnah Terminal Beat-12 (KM 1245) to Sanpal Chowk Beat-16 (KM 1045) witnesses varying visibility between 20 and 100 meters. Additionally, the route from PS Kamoke (KM 1305) to Kala Shah Kaku (KM 1276) records visibility as low as 10–50 meters, highlighting the need for utmost caution.
As commuters navigate these weather-induced challenges, authorities stress strict adherence to closure guidelines, urging prioritization of safety over expediency. Staying updated on real-time road conditions and exercising patience becomes crucial in facing nature’s wintry grip on the region’s transportation routes.
