NDMA Issues Warnings as Ravi and Chenab Rivers Rise

Islamabad:The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast additional rain-thundershowers accompanied by windstorms or gusty winds in multiple regions over the next 24 hours.
These regions include Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Punjab, central Punjab, the Potohar region, Islamabad, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and northeastern Balochistan.
The PMD also anticipates heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Kashmir, northeast Punjab, central Punjab, the Potohar region, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and northeastern Balochistan.
The current weather pattern involves monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea affecting the upper and central parts of the country, alongside a trough of westerly waves impacting northern regions.
During the past day, there were reports of rain, wind, and thundershowers with sporadic heavy rainfall in Islamabad, the Potohar region, northeastern Punjab, central Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and northeast Balochistan.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority has issued warnings for increased water levels in the Ravi and Chenab rivers’ catchments over the next 48 hours.
This could potentially affect low-lying areas, causing disruptions to transportation, infrastructure damage, and impact on crops and livestock.
The NDMA has advised local administrations to monitor the situation closely and take necessary precautions.
