NA Committee Seeks Action Against SHO Gujrat for Misconduct Toward MNA

Islamabad: The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges has unanimously recommended the suspension of the Station House Officer (SHO), Crime Control Department (CCD), Gujrat, for allegedly breaching the privilege of Member of the National Assembly (MNA), Ch. Naseer Ahmed Abbas, and launching a false media campaign against him.

The decision came during the Committee’s 10th meeting, held at the Parliament House in Islamabad under the chairmanship of MNA Muhammad Afzal.

The Committee took serious notice of the issue, prompting the Regional Police Officer (RPO) of Gujrat to assure the members that a departmental inquiry would be initiated and disciplinary action taken against the SHO, with a report to be submitted to the Committee.

In addition to the privilege motion, the Committee also discussed proposed amendments to the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007, put forward by MNA Syed Rafiullah. On the request of the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, the matter was referred to the House Business Advisory Committee for further deliberations with representation from all political parties.

The meeting was attended by MNAs Ch. Naseer Ahmed Abbas, Nasir Iqbal Bosal, Waseem Qadir, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Nasar, Mir Khan Muhammad Jamali, Mir Ghulam Ali Talpur, Shagufta Jumani, Ramesh Lal, Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan, Aniqa Mehdi, Ghulam Muhammad, and Malik Muhammad Aamir Dogar, along with the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs.

Mover of the amendment, MNA Syed Rafiullah, also participated in the proceedings. Senior officials from the Ministries of Parliamentary Affairs, Law and Justice, Interior, Islamabad Police, Punjab Police, and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) were also in attendance.
