NA Body Slams Secretary’s Absence, Defers Agenda

Islamabad: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development on Friday expressed strong displeasure over the absence of senior officials, including the Secretary and Minister, forcing an adjournment of its scheduled sitting.

The committee, chaired by Syed Rafiullah, had convened to receive a briefing from the Workers Welfare Fund (WWF). However, members were irked when the Secretary arrived late and the Minister failed to show up altogether.

Lawmakers said the absence of the top officials reflected disregard for parliamentary oversight and undermined the committee’s ability to hold institutions accountable.

“The Committee records its strong displeasure at the absence of officials whose presence is essential for parliamentary oversight and for the timely consideration of administrative and legislative business,” the Chair remarked.

With no responsible officials available to respond to critical questions, the committee unanimously decided to adjourn and reschedule the meeting for a later date, stressing that future sittings would require full and timely attendance.
