Murree Sealed Off to Tourists Due to Snow

News desk

Islamabad: Entry into Murree has been reduced to zero vehicles after the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration imposed restrictions due to heavy snowfall and worsening weather conditions.

The Islamabad district administration said the decision was taken to manage traffic, ensure public safety, and facilitate road clearance operations. Tourists have been urged to delay travel plans until conditions improve and access routes are reopened.

Officials clarified that entry points to Murree have been closed to all traffic except for local residents. Residents are being allowed entry only after verification of identity cards at designated control points. Tourist and non-essential vehicles have been barred to ease congestion and ensure the smooth movement of essential services.

According to the administration, the restrictions are temporary and aimed at reducing traffic pressure on access routes affected by snowfall. Authorities appealed to tourists to cooperate and avoid unnecessary travel to the area until weather conditions stabilize.

The district administration also reported disruptions on the express highway, citing non-compliance by some motorists as a major factor contributing to congestion and delays in clearance work.

Traffic police and district officials jointly appealed to residents and travelers to follow instructions at checkpoints and along highways, stressing that cooperation would help restore traffic flow and expedite reopening of roads.

Heavy machinery has been deployed at multiple locations across Murree to clear snow from roads. Officials said clearance operations are ongoing, and teams are continuously monitoring the situation to ensure safe passage once conditions permit.

A spokesperson said all entry points will remain closed until roads are cleared and weather conditions improve. Tourists were once again advised to postpone travel and stay informed through official announcements, as public safety remains the top priority.
