Rawalpindi: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has directed the Murree administration to remain on high alert following forecasts of heavy rain and snowfall over the coming days. Precautionary measures have been activated across the province to mitigate potential risks.
A PDMA spokesman said on Monday that rain is expected in most districts from January 19 to 23, while Murree, the Galiyat region, and other hilly areas are likely to experience heavy snowfall along with rainfall.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), intermittent rain is expected in the Lahore, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Multan, Faisalabad, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bahawalpur divisions, requiring caution in both urban and rural areas.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia instructed all relevant departments to complete advance arrangements in line with the Chief Minister’s instructions and remain fully prepared to respond to any emergency. He placed particular emphasis on Murree, directing the district administration and line departments to stay vigilant.
Emergency control rooms have been ordered to remain operational 24/7, while Rescue 1122 disaster response teams have been placed on high alert to ensure swift action in case of untoward incidents.
The PDMA spokesperson also confirmed that facilitation centres have been set up at various locations in Murree to provide guidance and assistance to tourists.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather and to strictly follow safety advisories issued by authorities. The PDMA continues to monitor the situation closely, and the public is encouraged to contact the PDMA Punjab helpline at 1129 in case of emergencies.
