Multan: Punjab’s first anti-rape crisis cell is being established in Nishtar Hospital which aims to address the issue of evidence loss, ensuring that victims of sexual assault receive the justice they rightfully deserve.
In collaboration with the South Punjab Secretariat and the United Nations, this initiative marks a significant step forward in the fight against sexual violence.
In this regard, South Punjab Specialised Health Care Secretary Afzal Nasir Khan held a pivotal meeting on Tuesday with the United Nations Programme Coordinator for Punjab Sidrah Humayun.
Under the leadership of South Punjab Additional Chief Secretary Captain (R) Saqib Zafar, swift actions have been taken to set up the crucial Crisis Cell.
Victims of oppression are deprived of justice due to the loss of evidence, said Afzal Nasir. With this cell being activated in the emergency ward of Nishtar Hospital, immediate support will be provided to survivors, he added.
Doctors will receive training on the preparation of forensic reports to ensure the preservation of evidence in rape cases, Secretary further said.
Nishtar Hospital, which is equipped with forensic and other state-of-the-art facilities, will play an important role in this endeavour, he added.
With the Anti-Rape Crisis Cell set to be activated within a month, Punjab takes a resolute step forward in the pursuit of a safer and more equitable society,
Afzal Nasir also highlighted plans to extend the initiative to other regions.
In the second phase, anti-rape crisis cells will be established in Muzaffargarh and Bahawalpur, and eventually in all the districts of Punjab Province, affirmed Sidrah Humayun. APP
