Islamabad: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday paid tribute to Pakistan’s security forces for a successful intelligence-based operation (IBO) against Khwarij militants in the Kulachi area of Dera Ismail Khan, while political leaders across the country commemorated the martyrs of the Army Public School (APS) tragedy.

In a statement, the interior minister lauded the professionalism and bravery of the security forces for eliminating seven Indian-sponsored Khwarij terrorists during the operation. He said the forces displayed exceptional courage in confronting the militants and reaffirmed the government’s resolve to continue operations until the complete elimination of terrorism.

Mohsin Naqvi also paid rich tribute to Naik Yasir Khan, who embraced martyrdom during the operation. Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, he said the soldier sacrificed his life to thwart the nefarious designs of terrorists.

“The bravery and professionalism of our officers and soldiers are a source of pride for the entire nation,” he said.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces conducted the intelligence-based operation on the reported presence of militants. During an intense exchange of fire, seven terrorists belonging to the Indian proxy Fitna al Khwarij were killed, while Naik Yasir Khan, 34, was martyred after fighting gallantly. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the slain militants, who were involved in multiple terrorist activities in the area.

The ISPR said sanitisation operations are ongoing to eliminate any remaining militants and reaffirmed that the counter-terrorism campaign under Azm-e-Istehkam will continue with full force to eradicate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.

Meanwhile, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari paid profound tribute to the martyrs of the APS Peshawar tragedy on its anniversary, remembering the innocent children and teachers who lost their lives on December 16, 2014.

In a message, Bilawal said the APS tragedy remains a permanent scar on the nation’s conscience and reshaped Pakistan’s resolve against terrorism.

“December 16 reminds us that terrorism has no religion, no humanity, and no justification,” he said, reaffirming the PPP’s commitment to peace, education, and the rule of law.

Separately, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan said the APS tragedy remains one of the darkest chapters in Pakistan’s history. In his message, he said the brutal attack on schoolchildren shook the entire nation and continues to live in the collective memory of the people.

He said the young martyrs laid down their lives for the future of the country and that their sacrifices continue to strengthen Pakistan’s resolve against terrorism. Praising the armed forces, he said they have been engaged in a relentless fight against terrorism to ensure peace and stability.

Abdul Aleem Khan paid tribute to the APS martyrs and prayed for the elevation of their ranks and patience for their families, adding that the tragedy will forever remain a symbol of sacrifice, courage, and national unity.
