Islamabad: The Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) on Friday criticised the Ministry of National Health, Services, Regulation and Coordination (NHSRC) for poor patient care, and ineffective medical facilities at the Polyclinic Hospital.

During the question hour session of the 51st session of the National Assembly, MNA Aliya Kamran of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal Pakistan (MMAP) raised her objections on the reply submitted to her queries related to healthcare facilities at the Polyclinic Hospital.

Kamran said, “The facts presented in the answer to my questions painted a rosy picture that is contrary to the ground realities.”

In his follow-up inquiry, MNA Muhammad Jamal-ud-Din of MMAP stated that he had visited the Polyclinic hospital, where there was a massive influx of patients and subpar sanitary arrangements, particularly in the paediatric ward.

The suffering of the ill masses is being made worse by the lack of doctors at their desks and the poor testing facilities. Aliya Kamran drew attention to the fact that no Grade-20 officer from the Health Ministry was present during the proceedings and asked the parliamentary secretary for a response.

NHSRC Parliamentary Secretary Dr Shazia Sobia Aslam Soomro responded that during the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a huge influx of patients at the Polyclinic hospital and a lack of doctors and medicines.

Dr Shazia added that the ministry has taken steps to hide many of the deficiencies and is working to enhance hospital service performance.

The Parliamentary Secretary stated, “The Polyclinic extension, which is under construction at the G-11 area, will assist in resolving numerous problems relating to service delivery and a rise in the calibre of medical facilities.”
