Islamabad: Digital rights expert Nighat Dad has urged citizens to remain vigilant against misinformation, stressing the importance of relying on official and verified sources for accurate information.

In an interview with a private news channel, Dad highlighted the need for responsible online behaviour and public awareness regarding the dangers of spreading unverified content. She advised citizens not to share unconfirmed messages in social media groups, warning that authorities are actively monitoring digital spaces.

“By adopting a cautious approach, individuals can play a crucial role in mitigating the spread of false information,” she said.

Nighat Dad noted that misinformation often spreads more rapidly at night, a time when fact-checking and verification mechanisms may be less active. She called on the public to remain cautious, especially during late hours, and to refrain from forwarding suspicious content.

She recommended that users always cross-check information with trusted and official sources before sharing it further, adding that online actions can have significant consequences.

Dad advised citizens to rely on official government websites, verified social media handles, and formal announcements from public institutions to ensure the accuracy and authenticity of the information they consume.

“Misinformation is a serious issue, particularly in geopolitical contexts where fake news can have far-reaching implications,” she cautioned.

She emphasized that verifying content through credible platforms is vital to maintaining trust and credibility in the digital ecosystem.
