Islamabad: WhatsApp is set to enhance its artificial intelligence capabilities by introducing real-time voice interactions with Meta AI, a feature currently being tested on the platform’s latest iOS beta version (25.21.10.76) via TestFlight.
According to WABetaInfo, a reliable source for WhatsApp updates, the new feature allows select beta users to initiate voice conversations with Meta AI by tapping a waveform icon in the Chats tab.
An additional option in the voice settings lets users automatically start voice chats upon opening the Meta AI interface, although this remains off by default to maintain user control.
Some beta testers have also noted that Meta AI voice calls can be initiated directly from the Calls tab, making the feature more accessible by eliminating the need for multiple taps.
The voice chat function aims to replicate the flow of a natural phone conversation. Users can switch to other apps during a session while keeping the chat window minimized using a “collapse” icon.

Meta AI remains active, responding in real-time, which could prove useful for reading notes aloud, searching the web, or completing hands-free tasks.
To further improve usability, the interface includes prompt suggestions to help users begin conversations. Visual context can also be added by uploading images from the gallery or camera via the input bar.
WhatsApp has emphasized user privacy in the implementation of this feature. Users can mute their microphone or end the session at any time. iOS devices will display an orange dot in the status bar while the microphone is active — a privacy safeguard that cannot be overridden by any app.
The voice chat feature is expected to benefit users who are multitasking, driving, or facing challenges with typing, as Meta pushes toward a more accessible, hands-free AI experience.
While Meta AI tools have been introduced across other Meta platforms, this is the first instance of real-time voice interaction being embedded directly into WhatsApp — a move that signals Meta’s growing emphasis on conversational AI integration.
The feature is expected to roll out to a broader audience in the coming weeks.
