Melania Documentary Breaks Records—and the Internet

News Desk

Washington: United States President Donald Trump has praised a new documentary about former First Lady Melania Trump, claiming it has turned her into a “movie star” following a strong opening at the box office.

Speaking to reporters from the Resolute Desk, Trump described the film’s release as a “tremendous success,” saying it was the “number one documentary in 19 years,” though he did not specify which metric he was referring to.

According to The Guardian, the documentary posted the strongest opening weekend for a documentary film in the past decade. The BBC reported that the film, titled Melania: 20 Days to History, earned approximately $7 million during its opening weekend, exceeding initial projections of $5 million.

“What do I get out of it?” Trump said during his remarks. “Nothing out of it. Now I have… so I had a top model, now I have a top movie star.”

Despite its box office performance, the film has received a sharply divided response from critics and audiences. On Rotten Tomatoes, the documentary holds an average critics’ score of just 5 percent, while its audience score stands at 99 percent. The unusually wide gap between the two ratings is reportedly the largest discrepancy recorded on the platform in 27 years.

The audience score surged after an influx of reviews from pro-Trump supporters, according to multiple media reports.

Production costs for the documentary were substantial. MS Now reported that the film cost an estimated $45 million to produce, with an additional $35 million spent on marketing and promotion.

Melania Trump has echoed her husband’s positive assessment of the film. Posting on the social media platform X, she described the documentary as “Loved By All.”

The film promises an intimate portrayal of Melania Trump during the period leading up to Donald Trump’s return to the presidency. Scenes reportedly include her listening to Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean and briefly conversing with French First Lady Brigitte Macron as she prepares to reassume the role of first lady.
