M-Tag Deadline Extended to Jan 15 in Islamabad

Islamabad: The district administration has extended the deadline for mandatory installation of M-Tags on vehicles in the federal capital by 15 days, allowing vehicle owners time until January 15, amid overcrowding and long queues at registration centres across Islamabad.
Officials said the extension was granted on the directives of the interior minister after a sharp increase in the number of citizens visiting M-Tag centres.
The earlier deadline expired on Tuesday, prompting authorities to announce relief for vehicle owners who were unable to complete the process due to limited service capacity.
According to the district administration, all vehicles must now be fitted with M-Tags by January 15. After the deadline, vehicles without M-Tags will be barred from entering Islamabad, with restrictions enforced at all entry points to the capital.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad urged citizens to utilize the extended period and ensure compliance before the new deadline. He warned that strict enforcement would begin after January 15, and violators may face legal action under relevant laws.
Officials said enforcement teams will be deployed at key entry and exit points to check vehicles. The administration has also decided to increase the number of M-Tag registration centres and set up additional counters to manage the heavy rush.
Ground reports indicated that many citizens had been waiting for hours to complete registration due to the overwhelming turnout. To ease congestion, additional staff will be deployed at centres where required, officials added.
The administration advised citizens not to wait until the final days of the extension and to visit centres during working hours. Vehicle owners were also urged to bring necessary documents, including vehicle registration papers and identity cards, to expedite the process.
Authorities said the M-Tag system is aimed at regulating vehicle entry, improving traffic management, and enhancing security in the federal capital. Public cooperation, they said, is essential for the successful implementation of the system.
