Lahore: Lahore has once again topped global rankings for smog and air pollution, with air pollution levels reaching alarming heights.
On Friday, the city’s air quality index (AQI) hit 499, with the Cantt area recording a hazardous AQI of 698 and the DHA area 565.
These levels indicate severe air pollution, with health risks for the general population.
Chief Meteorologist Aleem-ul-Hassan predicted that the smog levels in Lahore would continue to rise from November 22 to November 24, due to winds blowing from northwest to southeast.
He noted that no rain is expected in the city, although snowfall with rain is anticipated in the mountainous regions, which could help clear the air.
In response, the Punjab government has ramped up efforts to curb smog, taking stricter actions against vehicles emitting smoke.
However, the ongoing pollution crisis continues to affect public health and quality of life in the region.
