Lahore shivers under cold, cloudy skies

News Desk

Lahore: Lahore experienced cold and cloudy weather on Tuesday, with similar conditions expected to prevail on Wednesday, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Met officials warned that the intensity and duration of fog are likely to increase during the week across Punjab, Upper Sindh, and the plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They said continental air continues to dominate most parts of the country, while a shallow westerly wave is affecting western and northern regions.

Cold and dry weather is expected to persist nationwide, with moderate to dense fog and smog likely to continue over Punjab, Upper Sindh, and the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the PMD added.

Smog Keeps Air Quality Hazardous

Lahore’s air quality remained very unhealthy on Tuesday, raising serious health concerns for citizens.

Data from IQAir showed the city’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) at 266, with PM2.5 levels recorded at 36.2 times higher than the World Health Organization’s annual guideline.

The most polluted areas included Faisal Town, Ferozpur Road, Kalma Chowk, Chungi Amarsadhu, Multan Road, Liberty, Allama Iqbal Town, Barki Road, DHA Phase 5, Bedian Road, Askari X, and Johar Town.

Health experts have advised citizens—particularly children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions—to limit outdoor activities and take precautionary measures amid worsening smog conditions.
