Lahore: The Punjab government has declared multiple areas of Lahore as No-Bird Zones through ring fencing to safeguard aircraft from bird strike hazards, Chief Wildlife Ranger (CWR) Mubeen Elahi confirmed on Friday.
Speaking to APP, Elahi said a grand operation has been launched under strict directives from the Punjab government. The Wildlife Protection Force has been fully mobilised under his supervision, while the district administration and Environmental Protection Force are also actively participating in the ongoing enforcement drive.
According to officials, the areas declared as No-Bird Zones include Lahore Eastern Bypass, Manawan Hospital, Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI), Chungi Amar Sadhu, Ichhra, and Chah Miran.
A complete ban has been imposed on littering near airport vicinities, with mandatory use of garbage bins enforced. Moreover, slaughterhouses and poultry farms operating without proper environmental protection measures are to be shut down, while environmental laws will be strictly implemented on the leather industry, Elahi added.
He further stated that feeding birds on rooftops, courtyards, and public places is now prohibited. Additionally, keeping and flying pigeons has also been banned in the designated zones. Violators will face arrest, heavy fines, and severe penalties.
The government’s message regarding the No-Bird Zone operation has already been conveyed to all relevant stakeholders and communities, officials said.
The initiative aims to significantly reduce bird activity in high-risk areas to prevent accidents involving aircraft.
