KP Reports 9 Cases, JN1 Variant Concerns

Peshawar: At least nine positive cases, including cases of new variant JN1 of coronavirus, were reported during the last week, according to health sources on Friday.
The health department stated that all positive cases are linked to Peshawar, with five women among those affected.
Quarantine and other precautions have been declared mandatory for the affected individuals.
In response to the situation, an advisory has been issued regarding the positive cases of COVID-19 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
Director of Public Health, Dr Irshad Roghani, said that the advisory has been issued considering the spread of the JN1 variant of Corona.
Hospitals are advised to test patients exhibiting influenza-like symptoms, with further instructions provided.
Dr Roghani emphasized that hospitals have been directed to send samples to the Public Health Reference Lab for genome testing. Out of the nine positive cases, six are from Peshawar and three from Swat.
Furthermore, Dr Roghani highlighted the presence of two variants, JN1 and JN1.8, among the cases.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the prevalence of the Corona JN1 variant is 83 percent.
A public advisory has been issued to encourage people to take necessary precautionary measures.
