Islamabad: An average of five women face violence every day in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, yet the conviction rate remains at 0 percent, according to a new fact sheet released by the Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO).
The report, covering January–June 2025, documented 916 cases of gender-based violence across the province. Kidnapping and abduction topped the list with 466 cases, followed by 234 cases of domestic violence, 112 rapes, 63 honor killings, and 41 offenses under the Ghag Act, which criminalizes forcibly claiming a woman for marriage without her consent.

Of the total cases, 801 were challaned, 86 remain under investigation, and 770 are under trial. Despite this, not a single conviction was recorded during the six-month period. SSDO noted that no acquittals or withdrawals were registered either, highlighting systemic gaps in investigation and prosecution.
The organization warned that social pressures, weak legal response, and institutional shortcomings continue to obstruct justice for survivors. District-level analysis identifies persistent hotspots where violence remains alarmingly high, both in absolute numbers and per 100,000 women.
SSDO urged coordinated action between police, prosecutors, social welfare departments, and community stakeholders to strengthen reporting, prosecution, and support mechanisms for survivors of gender-based violence.
