KP CM Orders Inquiry Into Sanam Javed’s Abduction
News Desk
Peshawar: The Peshawar police have launched an investigation into the alleged abduction of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javed, after a first information report (FIR) was filed in the early hours of Tuesday at Sharqi Police Station.
According to the FIR — a copy of which was seen by Dawn.com — the complaint was lodged by Hira Babar, a close friend of Javed, who alleged that unidentified men forcibly took away the PTI activist near the Civil Officers’ Mess late Monday night.
Babar stated that around 10:40pm, while the two were returning after dinner, they were intercepted by a green Vigo and a white car, blocking their vehicle. “Five men got out and tried to force Sanam into their car,” she said in her statement.
“We screamed for help, but no one — including officers and security personnel in the vicinity — intervened.” She further alleged that the men “took her towards the Red Zone.”

The case has been registered under Section 365 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which pertains to kidnapping or abducting a person with the intent to wrongfully confine them.
Reacting to the incident, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur ordered an immediate investigation and vowed to bring the culprits to justice. “The culprits will be severely punished,” his spokesperson said, adding that all resources were being utilised to locate the perpetrators.
The PTI condemned the alleged abduction in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), calling it “shameful and deeply disturbing.” The party said such actions “violate basic human rights and dignity” and demanded accountability.
Earlier, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram had claimed that Javed was “pulled out of her car and taken away in front of her friends.”
Sanam Javed, a vocal PTI supporter, has been named in multiple cases, including more than a dozen related to the May 9 riots. She was imprisoned for a year before being released in July 2024 on the Islamabad High Court’s orders.
Earlier this year, she was again detained for leading a rally outside Aiwan-i-Adl and later booked for allegedly posting derogatory remarks about state institutions on social media.
Last month, her sister Falak Javed was also arrested by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) for her alleged role in circulating fake videos of Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari online.
