Islamabad: King Charles III of the United Kingdom called Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday to formally invite him to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa this October.

Accepting the invitation, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that the CHOGM in Samoa would be a historic occasion, marking the first summit chaired by the King since he assumed the role of Head of the Commonwealth, as noted in a PM Office press release.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the Commonwealth and its Charter, highlighting the summit as an opportunity to enhance intra-Commonwealth cooperation on critical issues such as sustainable development, strengthening democratic institutions, and empowering Commonwealth youth.

Acknowledging the King’s longstanding focus on environmental issues and climate sustainability, Prime Minister Sharif expressed eagerness to discuss climate change with fellow Commonwealth leaders, given Pakistan’s significant vulnerability to its impacts.

The Prime Minister also inquired about the King’s health and extended his best wishes to The Princess of Wales, who has recently completed her treatment.

He reminisced about the King’s previous visit to Pakistan as Prince of Wales and expressed hope for a future visit by the King and The Queen to Pakistan.
