Kidney Transplant Patients Suffer After Suspension of Funds to IKD

Peshawar: The patients of kidney transplants in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa have suffered after the suspension of funds by the KP Finance Department to the Institute of Kidney Diseases (IKDs) in Hayatabad.

As a result of the suspension of funds to IKDs, the free treatment process of about 150 kidney transplants at IKDs has been suspended which increased their suffering.

Riaz Hussain, Deputy Director IKD told APP that around 150 kidney transplant patients were affected due to the closure of funds to the hospital.

He said kidney transplant operations were affected and letters were sent to the Finance Department for the provision of funds on an emergency basis to save their lives. The official said funds were suspended by the Finance Department for the last five months, increasing the suffering of these poor patients belonging to different districts of KP.

He said Rs100,000 per month was required for the treatment of each kidney transplant patient. The Institute of Kidney Diseases (IKD) was established in 2007 and is the first of its kind specialized tertiary care hospital in KP.

The patients have requested CM KP to take notice of the issue and directed the Finance Department to immediately release the funds
