Karachi Heat Intensifies as Temperature Set to Reach 40°C
News Desk
Karachi: Karachi is bracing for a surge in heat intensity today, with temperatures expected to climb up to 40 degrees Celsius, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The Met Office has forecasted “extremely hot and humid” conditions in the port city, which will likely increase discomfort for residents. High humidity levels are predicted to make the temperature feel considerably hotter than the actual reading on the thermometer.
On Saturday, Karachi recorded a maximum temperature of 37.6°C. However, due to elevated humidity, the heat index — or “feels-like” temperature — was 6 to 8 degrees higher, intensifying the heat stress on the population.
Meteorologists have cautioned that the ongoing weather conditions pose serious health risks, particularly for children, elderly citizens, and individuals with existing health issues.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain indoors during peak heat hours, stay well-hydrated, and avoid unnecessary sun exposure.
Officials are also being called upon to implement precautionary measures, including ensuring the availability of water and medical assistance at public places, especially during the afternoon when the heat reaches its peak intensity.
