Karachi Admin on High Alert

News Desk

Karachi: Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, stated on Wednesday that in light of the current weather conditions, all staff have been put on high alert with machinery deployed to prevent any inconvenience to citizens during the ongoing rains.

He made these remarks during his visit to various areas, streets, and stormwater drains across Karachi.

Barrister Wahab explained that a powerful rain system has entered the city, resulting in light to heavy rainfall in different areas.

He assured that teams from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) are working around the clock to manage water drainage at locations where water has accumulated due to continuous rain, with all relevant staff actively present on the roads.

Despite the ongoing rain, the main roads and underpasses remain clear, and attention is being given to low-lying areas.

He further mentioned that the flow of water in the stormwater drains is normal, and even though all choking points have been cleared, continuous monitoring of the drains is underway.

The Mayor noted that rain has persisted for the past two days, with some areas experiencing heavy rainfall.

As a result, the KMC team has been diligently working on water drainage, particularly using de-watering pumps in areas with significant water accumulation.

During his inspection of the stormwater drains with municipal staff, Barrister Wahab expressed his satisfaction with the hard work of the entire team, extending his congratulations for their efforts.

However, he acknowledged that more work is still needed.

He highlighted that the nursery area, which has traditionally faced difficulties during rains, is currently being cleared due to preemptive measures, and water drainage is ongoing. However, some parts around the furniture market may still be affected depending on further rainfall.

Finally, he noted that in areas where stormwater drains have been constructed, water drainage is proceeding more effectively. The pumps installed in the underpasses for drainage are also functioning well.

Nonetheless, he urged citizens to drive cautiously to avoid accidents.
