Journalist Anila Shaheen Passes Away in Peshawar

Peshawar: Senior journalist Anila Shaheen, widely respected for her steadfast advocacy for journalists’ rights, passed away on Thursday after suffering a brain haemorrhage. She was based in Peshawar and had long been an active voice within the province’s media community.

According to the President of the Peshawar Press Club (PPC), her funeral prayers will be offered today (Thursday) at 3:00 p.m. in Chamkani, at her ancestral village Aziz Abad on Inqalab Road.

The cabinet and governing body of the Peshawar Press Club expressed deep sorrow over her untimely demise. In a condolence message, PPC President M. Riaz described her as a fearless, principled and professional journalist whose contributions to the field would be remembered for years to come.

He noted that Anila Shaheen remained consistently active in advocating for the rights and welfare of working journalists. She had the distinction of being elected General Secretary of the Khyber Union of Journalists, the representative body of working journalists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Throughout her career, she also served in several key positions at the Peshawar Press Club, playing a significant role in strengthening the institution and representing journalists’ concerns.

Her passing has left the journalist community in Peshawar deeply saddened, with colleagues mourning the loss of a dedicated and courageous media professional.
