ITP Sets Sept 26 Deadline for Govt Staff Licenses

Islamabad: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) on Wednesday launched a special campaign, running from September 17 to 26, to facilitate government employees in obtaining driving licenses.
According to officials, traffic offices and mobile facilitation vans will provide full support during the campaign. After September 26, strict legal action will be taken against any government employee found driving without a valid license, without exception.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Islamabad, Capt. (retd) Hamzah Humayun, said during anti-parking operations in the Secretariat Blocks, it was observed that a large number of government employees did not possess licenses for their vehicles and motorcycles.
“Accountability must begin with ourselves before the law can be enforced on the public,” he stressed, adding that all ITP resources would remain available to ensure maximum facilitation until the deadline.
However, some government employees expressed concern over the limited timeframe. Hassan Mahmood, a federal employee, said it would be unrealistic to issue licenses to thousands of workers across the federal capital within nine days.
Another employee, Nadeem, complained that despite spending the whole day at an ITP office, he could not complete the process due to heavy rush. “If this is the situation, how will such a large target be achieved?” he questioned.
The CTO reiterated that after September 26, no government employee, regardless of rank or department, would be exempt from legal action. He warned that violators’ vehicles could be impounded and departmental proceedings initiated, urging employees to obtain their licenses on time.
