Is Your Deceased Relative’s ID Card Still Active?

News Desk

Islamabad:  The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued an urgent appeal to citizens to cancel the ID cards of deceased family members, emphasizing that it is a legal requirement.

Despite the registration of 7 million deaths in union councils, many of these individuals’ ID cards remain active in NADRA’s records.

A deceased person’s son, daughter, spouse, or parents can request the cancellation of the ID card at any NADRA center free of charge.

To raise awareness, NADRA is also sending SMS notifications to citizens using available mobile numbers.

Failure to cancel a deceased person’s ID card may cause complications for their family members when processing their own identity documents with NADRA.

In cases where death registration records are incorrect, citizens are advised to get them rectified through the relevant union council secretary.
