Iran Warns of ‘Everlasting Consequences’

Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has issued a stern warning following US-led airstrikes on three of Iran’s nuclear facilities, condemning the attacks as a flagrant violation of international law and warning of “everlasting consequences.”
In his first public response since the strikes, Araghchi accused the United States—a permanent member of the UN Security Council—of breaching the UN Charter, international law, and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) by targeting what he described as Iran’s “peaceful nuclear installations.”
“The United States has committed a grave violation by launching an assault on our sovereign, civilian nuclear infrastructure,” Araghchi said in a statement shared on social media. “The events of this morning are outrageous and will have everlasting consequences.”
He called on the international community to urgently respond to what he termed “dangerous, lawless, and criminal behavior” by a leading global power, stressing that “each and every member of the United Nations should be alarmed by this extremely dangerous act.”
Araghchi further asserted that Iran reserves the right to defend itself under international law, citing provisions of the UN Charter that allow for self-defense in the face of aggression.
“In accordance with the UN Charter, Iran reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, national interests, and people,” he stated.
The statement follows US President Donald Trump’s announcement earlier on Sunday confirming that American forces, in coordination with Israel, had struck three nuclear sites in Iran: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. While Iranian officials have acknowledged the strikes, they have insisted that the facilities were evacuated in advance and suffered minimal damage.
Iran continues to assert that its nuclear program is strictly for peaceful purposes—a claim long contested by the United States and its allies. The recent escalation has further heightened fears of a broader regional conflict, with international diplomatic efforts so far unable to de-escalate the situation.
Analysts warn that the strikes could significantly undermine any remaining prospects for negotiations between Tehran and Washington, particularly as calls grow within Iran’s political establishment for a strong retaliatory response.
