Iran Confirms Mojtaba Khamenei as New Supreme Leader
News Desk
Tehran: Iran’s state media reported that the leadership of the country’s armed forces has pledged loyalty to the newly nominated Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, following his selection by the Assembly of Experts.
According to Iranian media outlets, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has also declared its readiness to follow the leadership of Mojtaba Khamenei, reaffirming its commitment to the country’s new religious and political authority.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament welcomed the appointment and urged the nation to unite behind the new leader.
In a statement, he said that following the Supreme Leader is both a religious and national duty for all citizens.
Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was nominated for the position by Iran’s 88-member Assembly of Experts.
The religious body confirmed that he has been selected and introduced as the third Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic.
The Assembly of Experts also called on the Iranian nation to maintain unity during what it described as a critical period for the country.
Trump Questions New Leader’s Durability
Reacting to the development, former US President Donald Trump said the new Iranian Supreme Leader would struggle to remain in power without US approval.

According to international media reports, Trump commented on Mojtaba Khamenei’s nomination, saying, “We will see what happens,” and suggested that the United States should have a say in the leadership transition in Iran.
“If the United States does not approve, the new Supreme Leader will not be able to last long,” he said while speaking to the media.
Trump also claimed that Iran could eventually end its conflict with Israel through consultations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Regional Tensions Escalate
The leadership transition comes amid heightened tensions in Iran and across the Middle East following the assassination of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.
Earlier, Trump had publicly described Mojtaba Khamenei as a weak and unacceptable candidate, while also expressing a desire for Washington to influence the succession process.
Israel has also warned that the new Iranian leadership could face possible targeting as tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv continue to rise.
Despite these warnings and the ongoing regional crisis, the Assembly of Experts said it remained firm in its decision.
According to the religious body, it did not hesitate in finalizing the succession process despite what it described as ongoing aggression by the United States and Israel.
