Iran Backs Saudi-Pakistan Defense Pact as ‘Good Beginning’
News Desk
New York: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has welcomed the recently signed defense agreement between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, calling it the start of a broader security framework in West Asia based on cooperation among Muslim countries.
Addressing the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Wednesday, Pezeshkian described the pact as “a good beginning” for ensuring peace and stability in the region. He stressed that lasting security cannot be achieved through military force alone but requires dialogue, cooperation, and solidarity among neighboring states.
Turning to regional tensions, the Iranian president strongly condemned what he described as Israeli attacks on Iran and across the Middle East, including in Syria, Yemen, and Qatar.
“We condemn Israel’s criminal attack on Qatar,” he said, adding that despite sanctions, assassinations of scientists, and what he termed “media warfare,” the Iranian people remain united behind their armed forces.

On the nuclear issue, Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran’s nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes and not aimed at developing weapons. “Iran has never tried to make a nuclear bomb and will never do so,” he declared.
He also criticized the European ‘Troika’ Britain, France, and Germany for supporting U.S.-backed sanctions while claiming to uphold the 2015 nuclear deal, accusing them of dishonesty in their approach.
This marked Pezeshkian’s first speech at a major international forum since the 12-day Iran-Israel conflict earlier this year, which resulted in the deaths of several senior Iranian military and political figures.
