Hyderabad: More than 28 villages in Sehwan’s katcha (riverine) belt have been cut off from nearby cities as the Indus River swells with a flood flow exceeding 400,000 cusecs, prompting the district administration to accelerate relief and security operations.

Deputy Commissioner Jamshoro Ghazanfar Ali Qadri and SSP Muhammad Zafar Siddique Chhanga led teams into the submerged areas on Friday, distributing food and essential supplies to stranded residents in villages including Lal Bux Leghari, Ameen Shahani, and Katcha Radhan.

Officials said relief efforts have been launched on the special directives of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, with priority given to maintaining supply lines and ensuring timely delivery of aid.

“All possible measures are being taken to support flood-hit families despite the difficult access conditions,” Qadri said.

Alongside relief distribution, the police have also been tasked with maintaining law and order in vulnerable areas. SSP Chhanga personally reviewed security arrangements and directed officers to safeguard both people and their property during ongoing rescue and distribution work.

The flood surge moving downstream towards Kotri has heightened fears of further displacement, while rescue teams continue to battle rising waters that have cut off thousands of residents from essential services.
