Indian Sikh Woman Marries Pakistani After Conversion

Sheikhpura: An Indian Sikh woman visiting Pakistan for celebrations marking the 556th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak has embraced Islam and married a Pakistani citizen in Punjab’s Sheikhupura district, officials said on Sunday.
The woman, identified as 48-year-old Sarbjit Kaur from Jalandhar, arrived in Pakistan on November 4 as part of a 10-day pilgrimage for the annual festival.
According to police, Kaur had developed a friendship on social media with Naseer Hussain, a resident of Farooqabad, which eventually led to her decision to convert to Islam and marry him.

Kaur appeared before a judicial magistrate in Sheikhupura, where she recorded her statement confirming that she had willingly embraced Islam and married Hussain without any pressure. She also informed the court that she had chosen to live with her husband.
Court documents show that after conversion, she adopted the Islamic name Noor. As per the nikahnama (marriage certificate), the marriage was solemnised on November 5, with a dower amount of Rs10,000, which has already been paid.
