India Initiated Aggression But Asked for Ceasefire, Says DG ISPR

Islamabad: Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has accused India of promoting a false narrative to conceal its alleged aggression and support for terrorism within Pakistan.
In an exclusive interview with RT Arabia, Lt Gen Chaudhry claimed that it was India’s Ministry of Defence that sought a ceasefire after recent cross-border tensions escalated, a request to which Pakistan agreed in the interest of regional peace and stability.
“To understand current India-Pakistan tensions, one must consider the wider context,” said the DG ISPR. “India has long been involved in sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan and across the region.”
Referring to the recent incident in Pahalgam, he criticised Indian media for hastily blaming Pakistan without evidence. “Just minutes after the incident, Indian media launched baseless accusations. Yet, two days later, India’s Ministry of External Affairs admitted that investigations were still ongoing. How can such serious claims be made without evidence?” he questioned.
Lt Gen Chaudhry revealed that Pakistan offered full cooperation in an impartial international investigation, which India rejected. “Rather than opting for diplomacy, India chose unilateral aggression, launching missile strikes that targeted mosques and resulted in the martyrdom of women, children, and the elderly,” he said.

He further alleged that India is the primary sponsor of terrorism in Pakistan, accusing it of backing extremist elements, including Khawarij-linked factions and separatist groups in Balochistan.
Discussing recent military hostilities, the DG ISPR stated that India initiated attacks during the nights of May 6 and 7, prompting Pakistan to shoot down five Indian aircraft. “India continued its aggression on May 9 and 10 by firing additional missiles, apparently to intimidate us — but the Pakistani nation and its armed forces do not succumb to threats.”
He emphasized that Pakistan exercised restraint and responded responsibly on May 10, targeting only Indian military installations. “No civilian infrastructure was hit. Our response was calculated, proportionate, and in line with international norms.”
According to him, it was this measured retaliation that led the Indian Ministry of Defence to reach out for a ceasefire. “We welcomed it, because peace and stability are our priorities,” he said, lauding Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in managing the situation on the global stage.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s stance, Lt Gen Chaudhry concluded: “We are a responsible nation. Our commitment to peace is unwavering. Violence is not our way — maturity, dialogue, and diplomacy are.”
