Historic Horse & Cattle Show Kicks Off in Peshawar

Peshawar: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s first-ever Horse and Cattle Show began today at Sher Khan Stadium in Peshawar, marking a historic cultural celebration in the province.
The three-day event, organized by the KP Sports Department, runs from November 8 to November 10 and was inaugurated by Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur.
The opening ceremony drew an enthusiastic crowd, with attendees including Corps Commander Peshawar Lt. General Umar Ahmad Bukhari, Provincial Sports Minister Syed Fakhar Jahan, and other notable officials, athletes, and spectators.
The festivities kicked off with a captivating free-fall jump and air gliding display, followed by traditional music and dance performances by Frontier Corps North bands.
A variety of attractions were featured on the first day, including dog and camel races, a horse dance display, the release of 1,000 pigeons, martial arts performances, a family festival, and a vintage car show.
Over the next three days, audiences will be treated to traditional games like tent pegging, kabaddi, wrestling, and camel and dog races, with a total of 16 contests planned until the event’s conclusion.
Provincial Sports Minister Syed Fakhar Jahan, speaking at the inauguration, expressed pride in the government’s commitment to reviving traditional and cultural sports, which are an integral part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s heritage.
He highlighted the leadership of Chief Minister Gandapur in prioritizing sports as a means to promote peace and healthy lifestyles in the region. The minister emphasized the importance of preserving cultural traditions for future generations through such festivals.
The show aims to celebrate the province’s rich heritage while fostering community spirit and unity through the revival of traditional games and festivities.
