Heavy Deployment in Twin Cities as PTI All Set to March

Islamabad: The local administrations of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have finalized comprehensive security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident during the PTI rallies and public gatherings in twin cities, police sources informed on Thursday.

The capital police, during a high level meeting, have decided to tighten security and ensure extra deployment at entry as well as exit points of Islamabad.

In this regard, the Central Police Office has directed all police officials to ensure effective security measures in their respective areas and combat crime through a comprehensive strategy.

It has also been directed to maintain high alert security and ensure strict checking at exit and entry points of the capital city.

The top management has directed the SPs to brief their subordinates about improved security by utilizing all necessary resources. It has also been directed for the extra deployment of police personnel by taking security measures at important locations of the city, including buildings, markets, important chowks, signals, and worship places.

Any law and order situation in Islamabad will be dealt with using modern techniques, the police sources informed.

IGP Dr Akbar Nasir Khan said that all the officers should be ready at all times to deal with the law and order situation. He said that Islamabad police would never allow anybody to disturb peace in the city. IGP Dr Khan directed all the concerned to take all necessary measures to protect the life and property of citizens.

The source said that Islamabad police have decided to seal Faizabad from all directions through containers while around 20,000 personnel including contingents of Rangers and Frontier Constabulary would be deployed at entry points of the city.

Pindi Deploys 10, 000 Enforcers

 The district administration, police, traffic police, and Rescue-1122 on Thursday finalized arrangements for the PTI rallies.

It was decided jointly that police personnel, including commandos from the Elite Force and sharpshooters, would be deployed on roads and other sensitive places in the garrison city to provide foolproof security to the rallies.

In order to ensure smooth flow of traffic, City Traffic Officer (CTO) Tamoor Khan on Thursday said special diversion plans had been finalized to regulate traffic on roads during the long march.

Enhanced number of traffic wardens would be deployed on alternative routes to ease traffic flow and facilitate the road users, he said.

The CTP would also try to spread awareness about up-to-date traffic situation through FM 88.6 and social media.

Meanwhile, the district police have also formulated a comprehensive security plan for maintaining law and order until the protesters leave the city. In this regard, over 10,000 personnel would be deployed to ensure security while 750 traffic wardens would ensure foolproof traffic arrangements.

CTO Khan informed that over 400 Elite commandos would be on security duty during the long march and the public meeting. Additional police force would be deployed on Murree Road and other routes of the long march while the teams of Elite and Dolphin forces would be patrolling in different areas to check law and order situation. Over 100 snipers and police officials would also be stationed atop buildings on the route of the long march.

In addition, as many as 2,500 police personnel would be deployed in the inner cordon. Monitoring of the routes of the rallies would be conducted through CCTV cameras while four special vehicles equipped with CCTV cameras facility would also be used to monitor the security of the routes of the rallies.

Senior police officers would remain in the field to check field duties and brief the police on duty.

Elite Force, Dolphin and personnel of other units had also been deployed to make all the security arrangements foolproof.

CPO Syed Shehzad Nadeem Bukhari said that all available resources would be utilized to provide best possible security cover to the public meeting.
