Healthy Diet & Prenatal Vitamins Essential for Expectant Mothers: Nutritionist

Sargodha: In a ceremony organised in a private college on Thursday to promote awareness about the health of pregnant women, nutritionist Ayesha Anfal stressed the importance of a healthy diet and the usage of folic acid supplements for pregnant women.

In her remarks, she noted that extra folate is needed during the first 28 days of pregnancy because its deficiency can lead to a number of other problems, such as nerve weakness and spinal cord dysfunction. She added that folic acid insufficiency causes neurological defects in babies, usually up until the woman is aware of her pregnancy.

She urged all women of childbearing age to consume enough dietary supplements and foods, such as bread, flour, cereals, and pulses; and to cut back on their consumption of sugary drinks, fried foods, bakery products, and other such items. APP
