Half of Pakistan’s Population Faces Malnutrition Crisis: Dr Tauseef

Multan: Approximately 27% of the global population is grappling with food insecurity. However, Dr. Tauseef Sultan, Chairman of the Department of Human Nutrition, highlights a particularly alarming situation in Pakistan, where half of the population is experiencing malnutrition.
According to the World Hunger Index 2021–22, nine countries were severely affected by food insecurity. Dr Tauseef emphasized the necessity of educating and raising awareness among farmers about modern agricultural practices to enhance food production.
Dr. Shakeel Ahmed provided insight into improving crop cultivation amidst climate change, advocating for the adoption of specific guidelines. Dr Tanveer stressed the rising challenge of animal diseases, which pose a significant hurdle to food acquisition.
The speakers proposed collaborative measures to address food and nutrition challenges and stressed the utilization of modern technology to enhance food safety.
The ultimate goal of preserving food elements is to achieve a healthy life, which is only possible through a sustained focus on nutritious food intake.
Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali lauded the conduct of the international event and hoped that it would surely help contribute positively to global food issues.
