Gurpal Singh Becomes First Sikh from Khyber Elected to KP Assembly
News Desk
Peshawar: In a landmark development, Baba Gurpal Singh has become the first Sikh from Khyber District to be elected to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on a minority seat, marking a significant milestone for the region’s Sikh community.
Following the recent allocation of reserved seats in the provincial legislature, Singh was selected on a minority seat allocated to the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F). A respected religious leader, he belongs to the Malik Deen Khel tribe in the Bara subdivision of Khyber District.
His election is being widely celebrated as a breakthrough for minority representation and a step forward for political inclusion in the tribal belt, where religious minorities have historically had limited visibility in governance.
Community leaders and political observers have lauded the move, saying it reflects growing acceptance and diversity in the political landscape of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
